With interiors more akin to a genteel members club than a London city sprawl, Brooklyn-born businessman Ian Schrager’s latest venture has created a notable buzz, and rightly so. Set within the confines of the old Berners Street Hotel, The London EDITION is draped in luxury. Public spaces are awash with leather and velvet in warm old-world hues and the lobby moonlights as a buzzing cocktail bar.

In contrast to the hubbub downstairs, the wood-panelled bedrooms – which span from comfy Guest Rooms to the jaw-dropping Penthouse – possess a welcome sense of calm. Faux fur throws and crisp white bed linen see a modish ski-chalet look coming together. Add into the mix the statement mood lighting and you’ve got one seriously elegant package.

Guests can work out in style thanks to the well-armed Fitness Centre and personal training sessions can be arranged, the hotel’s trump card however has to be Berners Tavern; a lofty dining hall with a killer menu.

Inside track

Best room: Plump for one of the capacious Loft Suites. Who could resist the sink-in king bed, rainforest shower and signature Le Labo amenities? If you’re really flashing the cash, the Penthouse is magnificent and has not one, not two but three outdoor terraces.

Dress code: ‘Smart casual’ could have been invented for The London EDITION.
