A seriously stylish crowd flit to this hacienda-inspired basement to gorge on tantalising Mexican fare thrown together by Richard Ampudia of La Esquina fame. All shabby concrete walls, wooden floors and candlelight, there’s a sultry mood about the place, helped along by a rocking track list and despite the sex shop exterior, it’d make a terrific first date spot.
Food wise you’ll be spoilt for choice: soft shell crab tacos with chipotle crema, slow roasted lamb barbacoa and the zestiest ceviche in the city. Opt for a few rounds of tacos and two or three mains to share, washed down with an intoxicating tequila-based bevvy from the bar. Stay on past midnight and watch the party come to life after the last plates are served.
Top table: Ask for one of the plush corner tables to be right in the thick of the action.
Dress code: Now’s the time to pull out the big guns. In a setting this cool, your outfit had better be a winner.
