There’s no denying Heidi Klein’s position as the go-to luxury swimwear brand year after year, so who could be better to talk to about tote-filling essentials? Co-founder Penny Klein guides us through her must-have items for a day kicking back on the sand...

Heidi Klein Havana Wide Brim Hat

As I’m quite fair skinned, I swear by Heidi Klein’s Havana wide brim raffia hat to protect my face from harmful rays. It’s probably my most important beach essential and I’ll wear it all day when relaxing by the sea. To keep the shape while travelling, I pack around it and slot rolled-up lingerie and bikinis inside. If it’s crumpled at the other end, I’ll steam it over a kettle for a moment to get the form back.

Louise Galvin Sacred Locks Treatment Mask For Thick or Curly Hair

My all time favourite hair product is Louise Galvin’s Sacred Locks Treatment Mask. It’s infused with seaside plum to keep hair hydrated in the sun and leave it looking super shiny – I won’t head on holiday without it.

Heidi Klein Vernazza Knot Padded Bandeau Top - £95.00 and Tie Side Bottom - £95.00

I always tend to opt for a classic bandeau bikini and simply update the style each season. This year I’m wearing the nautical navy Vernazza balcony top and string bottom from our High Summer 2014 collection.

Tom Ford Vivienne Sunglasses

Tom Ford sunglasses are a godsend when spending a day chilling out on the beach. Brown, tortoiseshell frames seem to suit me best and I prefer oversized styles to keep the sun out of my eyes.

Heidi Klein Abaco Beach Eyelet Batwing Dress

Versatile dresses – For a look that’ll take me from beach to bar, I always pack a few lightweight cover-ups that can be rolled up in my case and don’t need to be ironed after unpacking.  I love the understated Heidi Klein Abaco beach dress – the adjustable fit makes it ideal for wearing all day long and the gold eyelet detail makes it elegant enough for the evening.

Lancôme Soleil Bronzer SPF30

Lancome Soleil Bronzer SPF 30 Protective Cream – I always try to take good care of my skin and so when I’m in the sun I reach for Lancome’s Soleil products. The lightweight protective cream is a must for me. It glides onto my skin easily and doesn’t leave a greasy residue on my clothes.

Heidi Klein Embroidered Canvas Bag

I carry one versatile tote from plane to beach – one that’s big enough to store all my essentials for the flight and then transform into a stylish beach bag for the rest of the holiday. At the moment I’m carrying the Embroidered Canvas Bag; it looks gorgeous from home to destination.
