Obonjan: Summer's Private-Island Festival

Swap wellies for wellness this summer as croatia's private-island party comes alive

Festivals are always a blast. Admittedly, the English variety tend to bring about a more 'we-survived-it-together' sort of fun, while their US counterparts are geared towards 'did-we-get-enough-snaps-for-Instagram?' type frolics – but, they're a hoot all the same. If however, you get rid of the mud, leave out the manic timetable-chasing (and obsessive social media updates) then things become enjoyable in a the more natural sense of the word. Add to that jaw-slackening vistas, glassy blue waters to cool off in and the idea of waking up sans hangover and well, now we're talking.

Enter, Obonjan. Just off Šibenik on the pretty Adriatic coast lies a once-deserted private island that's reinventing the idea of a classic music festival. Set over a six-week season beginning on the 28th July, the isle of good vibes is set to be a summer-long journey that leaves you feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to do it all over again; essentially the polar opposite of every other knees up you've found yourself at. And did we mention it's totally environmentally-sensitive?

Though there's a killer line-up (seriously, check it out – Obonjan's creators are the geniuses responsible for Hideout and Unknown), music is just the tip of the iceberg. While the balmy evenings see the likes of Anderson .Paak and Erol Alkan taking over the amphitheatre, days on the island are decidedly calmer. How about a crystal dreamcatcher workshop followed by a harmonic sound healing session? Or a spot of deep flow yoga atop a pine-flanked platform? Say no more. If to you, wellbeing means being well fed, make a beeline for one of the island's organic dining spots where you'll happen upon grub so delicious it'd be worth the journey alone – the wood fired masterpieces at Pavillion Pizza are particularly good. Then, mooch on over to Drift to sink a Campari Spritz or four before the monumental stone stage comes to life.

In keeping with the utopian vibe, the digs are as far from festival-familiar as can be, with eco-friendly custom-crafted bell tents as standard and the option to upgrade to a plush forest lodge if you should so fancy. Oh and there's a handy little shack (aptly named The Corner Shop) to keep you stocked up on SPF and such, as well as yoga-wear and beachy attire by the likes of She's Lost Control and 43°.

Obonjan is calling – stay as long as you like, and do as little as you wish…

Obonjan runs from 28th July – 6th September with prices beginning at €74 per person, per night, including accommodation, access to all live gigs, talks, workshops and screenings, plus daily yoga and group meditation.

Fly into Split or Zadar airport then reach Šibenik via a 40-50 minute speedboat or ferry transfer.
