Seductive Waterside Lookout

A waterside ode to the Dutch Golden Age, Canal House is as cool as it is captivating. With rich colours and artful lighting aplenty, this intimate residence on the banks of the Keizersgracht packs a real punch design-wise and the staff know where it’s at when it comes to impressing. Expect iced tea upon arrival, an upbeat, fashion-forward vibe and more mirrors than one can shake a stick at.

The bedrooms, decked out in sumptuous plum and chrome velvet, are nothing short of show stopping. What they lack in space is more than made up for in sophistication and the smattering of tech details, plus bathrooms stocked with Green & Spring potions make for one seriously cool chamber.

Downstairs in the Great Room, - a former ballroom - Philippe Starck meets Louis XIV: matt black walls, leather banquettes and contemporary touches, all bathed in natural light. Here, a Negroni is an ideal sharpener to a light lunch, before a brisk stroll or an afternoon spent perusing the local boutiques. The trump card however has to be the courtyard garden; a calm, verdant space just right for unfurling a broadsheet.
