The uncanny resemblance to a late-Victorian train carriage makes a visit to this North London boozer all the more of a hoot. Emerald velvet chairs and Art-Deco lampshades sit amongst glistening mirrors while jungle-like plants climb the walls. Yes it’s quirky, but thankfully for all the right reasons and the uniform-clad mixologists sure know their way around that big ol’ bar.

Continuing the colonial explorer theme with gusto, Mikey Prendergast’s drinks list is as zany as they come. The absinthe and rum based T.T. Sazerac packs a punch to say the least but the expertly shaken Dark and Stormy is where it’s at. Don’t forget to have a nosey around The Crypt, the basement libation lab in which a few of Hoxley & Porter’s kooky ingredients come to be.

Best seat in the house: Set up camp in one of the curved leather booths. Hidden away in the corner, you’ve found your dimly lit haven in which to lounge and make your way through the madcap cocktail menu.
